Hey mamas (and future mamas)!

I wanted to take you along with me during one of my workouts and share some things I really wish I knew during my first pregnancy. Whether you’re currently pregnant for the first time or just starting to think about it, this is for you.

Let’s talk real talk—from body changes and emotional shifts to baby gear and standing up for yourself. Because here’s something wild I learned:

A woman’s body changes more during pregnancy and postpartum than a man’s does in his entire life.
Let that sink in.

1. Your Body Is Doing Something Incredible

And it’s okay if it doesn’t feel magical all the time.

When I was pregnant for the first time, I didn’t have much mom content on my feed. I had fitness knowledge and pre/postnatal training, but not a lot of personal insight. I wish someone had said: “This is going to be one of the most intense transitions your body will ever go through. And that’s okay.”

Even in that first trimester when you’re beyond tired (like, a kind of tired that can’t be explained), just know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. For me, it didn’t happen right at Week 12 like everyone said. It was closer to Week 15 or 16. And that expectation shift helped a lot during my second and third pregnancies.

2. You Don’t Have to Love Pregnancy to Be a Good Mom

This one’s big. There’s so much pressure to “enjoy every moment,” but truthfully? Pregnancy can be really hard.

Some of mine were easier than others. By the third, with two kids under 3 and Texas heat? Oof. Not fun. But just because I struggled didn’t mean I loved my kids any less. And the same goes for you. You can love your baby and still find pregnancy tough. You’re still a great mom.

3. You Don’t Need All the Things

Oh, the baby gear rabbit hole. I was that first-time mom who researched everything—strollers, bottles, bassinets, sleep sacks. And yes, some of it is helpful, but your baby doesn’t need all of it.

What do they need?
👉 Your love, milk or formula, diapers, a safe place to sleep, and a way to stay warm.
The rest is extra.

And let me tell you, by baby #3, I gave away so much stuff. Choose what fits your lifestyle and ignore the pressure to buy it all.

4. It’s More Than Just Physical

Yes, your body is changing. But emotionally and mentally? There’s a lot going on too.

You’re discovering a new version of yourself. And that’s beautiful, even when it’s hard. If this is your first pregnancy, soak in the moments with your partner, your quiet time, your rest. And if it’s not your first—soak in time with the child you already have. Each season is precious in its own way.

Mourning your “old life” doesn’t make you ungrateful. You’re just adjusting to the new—and it will become something beautiful.

5. Movement Is Powerful (Yes, Even During Pregnancy!)

If your doctor or midwife clears you, strength training during pregnancy is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

Not every exercise is ideal (maybe skip heavy hip thrusts late in pregnancy), but in general, moving your body will support your posture, your energy, and your recovery postpartum.

Even if you didn’t work out before—you can start now with the right support. Work with someone certified in prenatal fitness and listen to your body.

6. You Can (and Should) Advocate for Yourself

This one matters so much: You deserve to feel safe, heard, and empowered in your birth experience.

If you’re not vibing with your OB or midwife, it’s not too late to switch. I changed providers mid-pregnancy and it was one of the best decisions I made. Trust your gut. Ask questions. Take classes. Get informed.

There are amazing resources out there—from hypnobirthing to local doulas, from Facebook groups to online courses. Learn your options, and don’t be afraid to ask, “What would you do in this situation?”

Wherever you’re at—planning, pregnant, postpartum—I just want you to know:

You’re stronger than you think.
Your body is doing incredible things.
And you’re doing a great job.

Give yourself grace. Connect with others. Ask for help. And if you’re looking for a powerful way to reconnect with your strength—inside and out—I’ve got something for you:
